What's up, Walla Walla?

What's up, Walla Walla?

Nina has spent that last 10 summers in Walla Walla, assisting and training in her grandfather's print studio. When we met, we visited Walla Walla together and Kika was quickly put to work as a shop assistant! It soon became a place that we dreamed of visiting because of the beautiful sunsets, abundant local wine, delicious vegetables grown in the garden, and the interesting folks to meet. It's a hidden gem!

The following is a list of our favorite things to do in Walla Walla, mostly involving food! And since there's too much to name, we created a Google Map. If you're looking to explore the local outdoors, ask us for recommendations! (Also, don't forget to RSVP by May 15!)

Eats

Bacon & Eggs

Exactly what you think it is. Anything you can imagine from savoury to sweet, with the best local ingredients, and serving up the freshest breakfast cocktails in town. Kika is obsessed with their breakfast sandwich featuring homemade pesto mayo. Nina is quite partial to the huevos con chorizo.

Passatempo

Owned by our friends Jim and Claire, we love this place! Nina and The Master Printers started making a yearly pilgrimage to Jimgermanbar, the precursor to Passatempo, in nearby Waitsburg 10 years ago. In summer 2015 they moved operations to Downtown Walla Walla and now neighbor the print studio. Midday cocktails are not recommended when operating heavy machinery but we'll make an exception sometimes.

The Ice-Burg

In their own words: "Experience a legend". An old fashioned drive-thru and Walla Walla staple. The black and white milk shake is reallll good but they won't know what that is so ask for a "chocolate mixed with vanilla milkshake"

Shops

Hot Poop

This is the one and only, Hot Poop Walla Walla Bing Bang Stereo Shop! Run by Jim "Principal Poop" McGuinn, it has everything your heart desires including records, cd's, instruments, and super weird tee's. The 70's never left!

Goodwill

If you find yourself downtown with some extra time to spare, or maybe a few extra bucks, head over to the Goodwill for the best/strangest collection of Northwest vintage.

T Walla Walla

T Walla Walla is stocked with Walla Walla T-shirts (a clever appropriation of the Coca Cola logo) and many different items to screen print on to. Nina often spends her lunch break in there customizing T-shirts to give as gifts. If you're feeling wild, go in there and customize a tee and wear it to the big party! (They can do it in 20 mins.)

Drinks

Charles smith

One of Walla Walla's most famous exports. While there are many tasting rooms in town, Charles Smith's is a unique, industrial open space that makes drinking wine and people watching a leisurely afternoon activity.

The walls

The Walls can be found directly next door to our favorite restaurant in town! In fact, they supply Passatempo with their supreme house wine. It was founded by a badass woman, Ali Mayfield, who has been making some of the best wine in the valley for the past decade. We are lucky to have her around!

sweet basil

This is the local pizza joint that Nina frequents on a work day (or non work day) to get her pizza fix. Is it as good as a New York City slice? Probably not, but look, PIZZA IS PIZZA and you can be the judge of that. Oh yea, and they have beer, wine, and games! It's a great hang out spot.

Snacks

Colville Street Patisserie

Best coffee in town! They always have the best assortment of freshly baked treats and have started making their own gelato and sorbet as well. We recommend the chocolate chip cookies, the chocolate caramel tart or one of their wild gelato flavours. Service begins promptly at 9AM so if you rise earlier needing a caffeine fix, we'd recommend the Walla Walla Bread Company on Main Street or good ol' Starbucks.

Walla Walla Farmers Market

The house has several carefully grown garden plots to grow tomatoes, aubergines, onions, greens...the list goes on. But sometimes while in town, you just need a giant watermelon to carve into. The Walla Walla Farmers Market, open on Saturday, always has these watermelons along with local food vendors selling other goods. This is where you can buy a giant bag of Walla Walla's famous Sweet Onions. Don't miss the sausage and sweet onion sandwiches!

Bright's Candies

Like Ice-Berg, Brights is a local institution. It's filled with handmade chocolates and candy to buy by box or bag. There's also ice cream and homebrewed root beer on tap for floats, Nina's favourite! If you've got a sweet tooth, we suggest the mint malt balls or the dark chocolate turtles.
